Sustainability and Responsible Tourism

We Care

We care about the environment.
We care about the local communities where we operate.

That’s not just a hollow statement but something that guides everything we do from the paper we choose for our marketing material to the way we treat this beautiful countryside that we call home.

What better and more sustainable way to pass your free time by walking through stunning landscapes and re-connecting with nature.

How We Reduce Our Environmental Impact and at the same time have a beneficial impact in our own local communities:

Hiking on the Trail / Foraging

  • We adhere to and practice the ‘leave no trace’ principles and insist that our customers do too.
  • We adhere to and practise the country code and insist that our customers do too.
  • We want to leave nothing behind us on the hills except our footprints, and where possible we work hard to minimize these also!
  • As proud members of ‘The Association of Foragers’ we are passionate about foraging for wild food and folk medicine in a sustainable way – we love to discuss this on all of our foraging experiences , examining what this really means in a modern world.

Benefiting Local Communities

  • The accommodations which we use are locally owned and run wherever possible
  • Wherever possible we use local accommodation providers, local artisan food producers  and collaborate with other local experience providers who share our ethos.
  • This is so important because we want to invest in local people with generations of local history in these areas, families who have perhaps seen their traditional farming incomes eroded and as a consequence find it more and more difficult to give their children an option to remain where their roots are.

Travel

There’s no escaping it, the impact of air travel on climate change is significant because of the amount of Carbon dioxide emissions produced. Mountain ways Ireland encourage that everyone offset their carbon emmissions.

Visit one of the many websites that will give simple practical advice on how to do this and aim for the ideal of being carbon neutral.

We advise customers to travel to and from their holidays by the most environmentally friendly means and where possible provide details of public transport options. This works both from a financial and environmental perspective.

In the Office

  • We only use paper which is recycled
  • We recycle all our paper waste and other waste so far as is possible
  • We try to use the minimum amount of paper in the first place
  • We use energy saving light bulbs where possible
